Six Simple Ways To Eat Better at Home

Brittinie Wick
January 14, 2021

One big adjustment this last year has brought into many of our lives is the amount of time we spend inside our houses. I don’t know about you, but I barely left the house that a full tank of gas lasted five times longer than before. Granted, part of it is because I prefer not to take two little ones anywhere during the pandemic, but regardless, I stayed home more than normal!

Working from home (because the gyms were closed), limitations on social gatherings and outings, and/or having our children home from school have all been BIG changes. (By the way, I give parents of school-aged kiddos HUGE kudos for dealing with homeschooling AND working from home).

As I’ve adjusted to the challenges – and perks! – of working from home, I realized that my snacking, meal consistency and just healthy eating overall were being impacted in more ways than one.

Not having a regular schedule, sometimes feeling bored or restless in the house, and having easy access to the kitchen at all times can be challenging when it comes to weight management, so without further ado:

Here are six simple tips to make eating healthier at home doable!

✔️ Don’t set up your workstation in or near the kitchen.

Working in such close proximity to your fridge and pantry creates easy and overly convenient access to snacks that you don’t need.

✔️ Determine why you may be snacking more than usual.

Is it boredom? Stress? Restlessness? Identify what emotion is causing you to want to reach for that bag of treats and then choose an alternative action – like taking a quick stretch break or walk around the house.

✔️ Plan your snack/meal times.

Schedule when you will take your lunch break the same way that you would if you were at the office. Plan an afternoon snack break. And make sure you actually eat!

The schedule will prevent you from overeating as well as forgetting to eat during the day and then eating too much later to compensate.

✔️ Don’t multitask when you eat.

Don’t eat your lunch or snacks while you continue to work. Distraction prevents us from paying attention to how much we are consuming and/or when we feel full. When it is time for a food break – actually take a break and enjoy your food.

✔️ Portion your snacks before eating.

Pour snacks into a bowl instead of eating out of the bag or box so that you can determine and control the portion size.

✔️ Limit your purchase of junk food.

If you don’t have it, you can’t eat it. That being said, we all enjoy a treat from time to time! Keep your snacks – especially unhealthy ones – out of sight so that you won’t be tempted to eat them whenever you see them. One of my golden rules: out of sight, out of mind!

March 2...one of the few days that I dread every y March 2...one of the few days that I dread every year. A day that brought so much pain, so much heart-break, so much hatred, so much darkness... it's officially been a decade, but every emotion still feels like it occurred yesterday. I was at work when I heard about the shooting where an Islamic extremist targeted U.S. Military because of a video he thought was real. Someone said "that looks like one of the buses from Ramstein"... My first thought was "it can't be Zac's". I remember when and where I was when I found out it was him. It was the worst feeling in the world. When I read the report on how it occurred, all I wanted to do was shoot the murderer in the head like how he did it to Zac. That Saturday, I was in uniform, saluting, trying to maintain military bearing, as his herst came down the road. The moment I saw the American flag draped over his casket, it felt like someone stabbed me a thousand times in the stomach... And I completely lost it. Even to this day, the pain never went away. I just learned how to cope with it better and tell his story, in hope that it will make a difference, by being vigilant regardless of where you’re at and bringing awareness to PTSD. I miss his bright blue eyes, his "lmao" to every response, his daily knocks on my door to see how I was doing, his smile, his genuine kindness... Zac was always willing to help someone out and I never saw him without him smiling or laughing. He would never let me forget the night at corona night where I gave him a big hug and asked for a cig (since he was a smoker and I'm wasnt). To this day, he is still the best beer pong partner I ever had. All I have left now are the memories... most of them as young A1Cs, living in the dorms at Ramstein. I'm honored to have served with him and even more blessed to have had him in my life. I just wish I had one last chance to tell him, so always tell your loved ones how you feel. Today, remember that some people gave their all to our beautiful country. Freedom isn't free. R.I.P. Zac... I miss you sweetheart. Besides being obsessed with @therock ... the sayin Besides being obsessed with @therock ... the saying on this shirt has been my motto lately. I’m determined to take my business to the next level and that is the driving force for a lot of things that I’m undertaking, to include my competition. I can easily have so many excuses NOT to do this:
“I’m too tired”
“Kids aren’t cooperating” but when are they ever 🤔
“I don’t feel like it”
“I don’t have time”
“No one is interested”
“I’m overwhelmed”
The list goes on... but I keep hustling because NOBODY CARES!! WORK HARDER... OUTWORK YOUR COMPETITION! (Sometimes your competition is YOU). Nobody cares as much about your success besides YOU! Sure, my husband, my family, my friends care, but not to the extent as I do. I refuse to give up, and I’ll keep telling myself “work fucking harder”.
How do you find motivation to keep going? Let me know!! 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼

At-Home ABS with the mini-band... you can do these At-Home ABS with the mini-band... you can do these with my booty band too‼️‼️(You can do these without them but damn, do they make it challenging) I did speed up the videos, so remember, nice and controlled movements. Make sure to focus on using your abs for the movements, and not your neck. Place the band around your feet
✨
‼️DISCLAIMER‼️: I often get asked how to “lose the stomach” and what ab exercises will help. Keep in mind, a healthy diet will help show your abs and “lose the pooch”... these will only help build the muscle that’s underneath. ✨Complete 2-3 rounds of 20 reps total (10/each leg)

“Bat Wings” aka triceps are something I often “Bat Wings” aka triceps are something I often hear people say that they want to work on. So before I begin, you cannot spot reduce, you cannot control where you lose it, and you cannot control what fat goes first, however, you can sculpt with specific exercises. Here are some exercises to help sculpt.
✨
Here’s what you can control: how clean your diet is (remember, you CANT out train a bad diet), how much you’re getting out of your cardio session, and how much you’re getting out of your strength workouts.
✨
You can use Dumbbells or a Pulley system as alternatives, or you can just get my resistance bands, where you can add as much resistance as you need/want without taking up space 🙃
